Our remit is scriptwriting so in general we can't promote opportunities from organisations outside the BBC which are for novel writing, short stories, poetry etc. We can only promote opportunities which are free to enter.

BBC Contains Strong Language Festival - BBC Writersroom Workshop & Alfred Bradley Bursary Award Launch
2 Events: 29th September 2018 in Hull. Ever wondered how to get noticed by the BBC? How to send your script and what happens when you do? How do we assess your work? What grabs us and what puts us off? If you’re after some tips, this is a session not to miss. Plus the launch of the Alfred Bradley Bursary Award 2018 for Radio Drama. This award for new writers from the north of England offers a £5000 prize and the opportunity of a BBC Radio 4 commission.
Deadline: 26th October 2018. The Bi’an Award is a new writing competition open to UK-based writers of Chinese heritage and supported by Arts Council England, Arvon and Stand magazine.
Deadline: 28th September 2018. Cast Iron Theatre are looking for spooky/scary stories for 'Bitter Sweets: Ugly Tales for Beautiful Souls', their popular spooky storytelling night as part of Brighton Horrorfest.
Deadline: 5th October 2018. Cast Iron Theatre in East Sussex are open for submissions for their eleventh short play night in November. They are looking for short plays (between 10 - 15mins) with a soft theme of 'Eleven' - interpret as you wish.
Deadline: 5pm on Friday 28th September 2018. The course offers 12 writers new to television drama an insight into how the industry works, including writing an original C4 / E4 one-hour drama series or serial pilot episode, and 2-3 page outline / pitch for the series / serial as a whole.
Deadline: 21st September 2018. The OSO (Old Sorting Office, Barnes) is looking for new, untested or developing pieces of theatre (10-15 minutes long) for Dispatches, their third scratch writing night, taking place on 6th December.
Deadline: 30th September 2018 at midnight. Down Stage Write is a new theatre company who are committed to providing development and production opportunities for new writing in Devon and Cornwall. They are currently accepting submissions of 10-15 minute short plays for a new writing night in Exeter in November.
Deadlines: 25th September 2018. Are you aged 16-25 and living in or around Peterborough? Are you interested in telling stories? Do you write lyrics, poems, films or plays?
Deadline: 25th September 2018. Global Voices Theatre is a new platform for international theatre, presenting rehearsed readings of unheard stories from often under represented playwrights. Their next event Global Black Voices will showcase 5 plays by Black playwrights based outside the UK. Submissions are open now.
Deadline: 28th February 2019. Green Curtain theatre will be staging their 3rd festival of fringe plays in the summer and autumn of 2019 in London. The theme of the festival will be “Breaking Away”. They are looking for one act plays on this theme that reflect any aspect of the lives or experiences of Irish people living in multi-cultural Britain.
Deadline: 5th November 2018. The Ink Festival gives writers, with a past or present connection to East Anglia, the chance to have their plays professionally produced and performed at the 2019 INK Festival. The categories are: short plays, radio plays, themed plays, musical theatre and young writer.
Deadline: Mondays & Tuesdays at noon weekly from 10th & 11th September 2018 and for 5 more weeks until 16th October. BBC Radio 4 Extra are again looking for submissions of sketches and one-liners for the topical sketch show series. A great chance to get your material on the radio!

Then apply for this series of free workshops in Hereford and Shrewsbury from the Pentabus Rural Theatre Company.
Deadline: 1st December 2018. Theatrefullstop will team up with 3 pub theatres to present the third Pub Theatre Festival in 2019, with the aim to be a launch pad for the voices of tomorrow. They are taking submissions now.
Deadline: 30th September 2018 at midnight. Robin Hood Theatre script submission process is open to all writers aged 16+ based in the East Midlands region and members of their play writing group, Play Group. Three finalists get a partial rehearsed reading with the potential for one to go on to a three night run.
Deadline: 5 December 2018. The RSL’s Literature Matters Awards aim to reward and enable literary excellence and innovation. Proposals can be pieces of writing, events, publications or productions on any subject and in any form, including (but not limited to) prose fiction or non-fiction, short stories, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, graphic fiction, biography or travel-writing.
Deadline: 18th October 2018. Sharp Scratches is a new writing night at Theatre N16 in Tottenham, North London. For their November 6th night they are looking for work that represents the LGBTQ+ community. Maximum 15 minute pieces or extracts, maximum 4 actors.
Deadline: 7th October 2018. The team behind Shorts @ the Canal are inviting all writers to submit a play no longer than 15 minutes in length for their next show, The Twilight Hour. Successful plays will be staged for 4 nights in November.
