Our remit is scriptwriting so in general we can't promote opportunities from organisations outside the BBC which are for novel writing, short stories, poetry etc. We can only promote opportunities which are free to enter.
Deadline: Monday 7th January 2019 at 5pm. BBC Writersroom's regular window for unsolicited scripts is open between 5pm on Monday 10th December 2018 and 5pm on Monday 7th January 2019 for Drama scripts (TV, film, radio, stage or online).
Deadline: 14th January 2019 at 5pm. BBC Drama, supported BBC Studios & Directors UK, is pleased to announce the latest round of their directors’ training scheme. We are now inviting applications to apply for Doctors.
A free online course for new and experienced writers built by the University of East Anglia’s School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing on the FutureLearn platform.
Deadline: Sunday 20th January 2019. Over two nights 16 new pieces will be brought to the stage, exploring the social ramifications of the Stop and Search policy from creative perspectives. From spoken word to performance art and everything in between, The Public Address gives a platform for new voices.
Deadline: 31st January 2019. Writers are invited to submit plays for the 2019 Arundel Festival Theatre Trail, now in its nineteenth year.
Deadline: 1st February 2019. The Bush Theatre is committed to discovering the best new plays from playwrights who may be unknown to them and therefore seek unsolicited submissions from playwrights in dedicated script windows.
Deadline: Midnight on 14th January 2019. As part of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Forestry Commission in 2019 they are looking to appoint two writers-in-residence, beginning in spring 2019. The two positions are paid and the writers will receive mentoring support and guidance to shape their work.
Deadline: 28th February 2019. Green Curtain Theatre will be staging their 3rd festival of fringe plays in the summer and autumn of 2019 in London. The theme of the festival will be “Breaking Away”. They are looking for one act plays on this theme that reflect any aspect of the lives or experiences of Irish people living in multi-cultural Britain. They also have an ongoing opportunity for short plays based on or connected to an Irish song.
Deadline: 15th December 2018. The third International Young Theatre Playwriting Contest is now open for submissions of bold and powerful plays for young audiences from writers worldwide.
Deadline: 5th March 2019. Amateur playwrights worldwide are invited to submit unpublished one-act plays for the 16th Windsor Fringe Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing.
Deadline: 31st January 2019. The next Leeds Playhouse script window will be open from 1st to 31st January 2019. They want to hear from writers who are from or who are living in Yorkshire or who feel a particular connection to Leeds Playhouse and their programme.
Deadline: 14th December 2018. The team behind Shorts @ the Canal are inviting all writers to submit a play no longer than 15 minutes in length for their next show 'Love Shots'. It has to have a love theme (any type of love).
Deadline: 7th February 2019. The Northern Writers Awards are for work-in-progress and exist to recognise talent and support new work towards publication or broadcast. There are awards for writers of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction and television at different stages of their careers, including publication, mentoring, developmental support and cash awards to buy time to write.
Deadline: 9pm on 17th February 2019. The 2019 Papatango Prize for new writing is open to all residents of the UK or Ireland, free to enter, and assessed anonymously.. The winner gets produced at Southwark Playhouse in autumn 2019, publication, a 10% royalty of the gross box office and £6000 commission plus support for a new play.
Deadline: 7th January 2019 at 5pm. Submit 15-30 minute (c.20-30 page scripts) to be included in their event in Glasgow on Tuesday 29th January. For this event they are looking for scripts that explore / respond to the phrase 'hope for the future'. They want to hear from women, trans women and non-binary voices. Although they are accepting submissions from across the UK, they are particularly keen to hear from writers based in Scotland.
Deadline: 5pm, Friday 11th January 2019. ReWrite is a script development event for playwrights from Glasgow-based In Motion Theatre Company. They will select four short plays or script extracts (up to 15 pages in length) and give you space and guidance to develop your script, to grow your ideas and push your playwriting.
Deadline: 31 January 2019. Talawa's Script Reading Service is open now until the end of January.
Deadline: 9th January 2019. A week-long writing workshop hosted in Lille offering intensive & high quality training for 20 emerging TV drama writers.
Event: 22nd January 2019 at a central London venue. University Women in the Arts free writing workshop for female arts students and recent graduates run in partnership with Actor Awareness. Part of their project around tacking and helping to eradicate bullying, abuse and harassment in the arts.
