Far from being just about films, the Fespaco experience is about colour, culture and the people of Burkina Faso - and that's exactly what the BBC has to offer.

The Oscars may boast fancier frocks and more sparkling rocks, but the enthusiasm of the crowds who pack the cinemas and football stadia of the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, to see the films is something to behold.

Since 2001, the BBC's African Service has given the biggest African Arts event the full treatment - in line with coverage of sports events such as the African Cup of Nations.

As in previous years, we'll be broadcasting live daily programmes every week day from a makeshift thatched studio at the heart of the Festival.

This time around, in addition to our own live coverage, we'll be providing for The Ticket, for Network Africa and Focus on Africa.

We will also be working in close collaboration with BBC Afrique, who cover the event for the BBC's Francophone listeners in Africa.

There's also a dedicated website, set up in collaboration with BBC News, for all the pictures and background information on the films.

The BBC's coverage of Fespaco will allow our audience to hear from some of the most dynamic and creative Africans on the planet.
