Christine Skarda

I listen to the BBC daily on shortwave and have done so for nearly 30 years now.

For the past 12 years I have been in meditational retreat and the BBC is my way of not losing touch with the world as I seek enlightenment.

The Dalai Lama, my teacher, listens every day and I take him as an example. I live in a hut in the Himalayas and although the reception is sometimes rather bad I still listen to Newshour.

I listen alone, of course, in retreat, but with the rest of the world listening at the same time I feel more than connected when I listen. I meditate from 5 am to 8 pm but at dinner it is break time and time to turn on the BBC.

Thanks for being there for a Buddhist nun in the hills near Darjeeling India!
