Brian Malama

By Ruth Kanyanga Kamwi
September 2007, Cardiff / Zambia

Ruth is a broadcast journalist from Zambia, studying here with the Thomson Foundation. Here she follows fellow Zambian student, Brian Malama, who's struggling to survive since his sponsorship collapsed. He has to work hard washing dishes and cleaning floors as well as study full time. Despite owing the university £5,000 - and he won't get his degree until he pays - he loves being here in Cardiff.
