BBC Young Reporter: News bulletins in an hour

Journalists and producers have to research news stories and produce live news bulletins to a tight deadline.

Working to a real deadline is great fun and something journalists do every day in newsrooms across the world.

Even if you don’t have a whole day to produce your news you can still do it in an hour, or just one lesson.

The lesson plan below will show you and your students how to:

  • produce a short news bulletin and then read and record it within an hour
  • gain an understanding of working to a deadline
  • develop team working skills

The lesson plan will help you go through the easy stages from planning and researching to creating a running order, writing your news stories and then rehearsing and going live.
