Male wearing shirt: I think numeracy and literacy are very important in the retail sector.
Female with long black hair: £5 please.
Female wearing glasses: £5?
Female with long black hair: Yes please.
Female wearing glasses: Cheers, darling.
Ta.
Male wearing shirt: It's important to have numeracy skills in cashing up in terms of how much we've taken that day, we'd then match that to the takings in the till, and hopefully they'll both balance out and there'll be no issues there.
Female with blond hair: We use maths every day, and we offer a loyalty program where we taken 10% off full price items, so we usually sort of need to calculate the discount amount and then say what the price is when the customers ask.
Male wearing stripy shirt: Addition is very important in retail, for example, we have a shirt here, which is marked at £40 now, and if the customer wants a pair of trousers to go with it, this is the final price at £35, so if he wants the outfit together it would be a joint cost of £75.
Male wearing shirt: I think literacy skills are needed for the computer system for a start, finding out what we've got in stock, and if the customer's not sure on the spelling of a certain DVD, you need to kind of have an idea of roughly how it's spelt, or know how to try different spellings to try and figure out what it is the customer's after.
Female with blond hair: We communicate with the customers, so we need to find the right words to make them feel at ease, to describe the products, and be friendly.
Female with blond hair: It's got the florals on here and the pleating, this is quite nice and flowery.
Female with blond hair: We need to definitely understand what they're looking for and fulfil that need, so communication skills come in very handy.
Male wearing shirt: I wouldn't have got nowhere near as far as I have without having numeracy and literacy skills, so yeah, I think it's a fundamental requirement for retail.
