Macbeth
A valiant warrior, he is persuaded his destiny is to be king and commits murder.
Lady Macbeth
She is eager for her husband to succeed but is finally driven mad by her sense of guilt.
The Three Witches - or 'Weird Sisters'
They tell Macbeth that he will become Thane of Cawdor and later King of Scotland.
Banquo
Macbeth's friend but murdered by him after the Witches say his descendants will be kings.
King Duncan
The rightful king, he is murdered by Macbeth when he comes to stay in Dunsinane Castle.
Lennox
A nobleman; loyal to Macbeth to begin but then joins with Malcolm's army against him.
Ross
Another noble who is loyal to Macbeth to begin, but then joins with Malcolm and Macduff.
Malcolm
The elder son of Duncan and the rightful heir; he flees following his father's murder.
Macduff
An important noble; he swears vengeance on Macbeth after the murder of his family.
