Science KS1 / KS2: Birds, reptiles and mammals

Science monkey superhero Dr Brain and a team of young scientists look carefully at the physical appearance of three different animals at the zoo.

Paying particular attention to the head, arms and legs, they identify the similarities and differences between them and humans.

Each animal at the zoo fits into a particular animal group, but can the team identify which one the penguin, tortoise and giraffe fit in to?

This short film is from the BBC series, Ultimate Brain: Mad Lab.

Teacher Notes

After watching this short film, pupils could look at images of other animals and use what they know about the physical features to categorise them in to their animal groups.

This short film could also be used as an introduction to how animals have adapted to survive.

Pupils could further research one of the animals to identify any other features which help it to survive.

Curriculum Notes

These short films are suitable for teaching science at Key Stage 1 and 2 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and First and Second Level in Scotland.
