Biology KS3 & KS4: Human circulation

This short film takes us on a journey around the circulatory system using the example of a baby's first breath.

A live water birth is shown and real life images combined with CGI to illustrate the anatomy and function of the circulatory system.

This short film is from the BBC series, Inside the Human Body.

Teacher Notes

This short film could be used either when talking about circulation or about birth as it has good footage of both.

The coverage of circulation is a good concise summary and would be useful to use as a recap to consolidate learning.

This footage could link to practical experiments on heart rate and respiration or students could be asked to create their own models of the circulatory and respiratory systems after watching the video.

Curriculum Notes

This short film will be relevant for teaching biology at KS3 and KS4/GCSE in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 4/5 in Scotland. Appears in AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL, CCEA, WJEC, SQA
