PSHE KS2: Dealing with problems at home

Bianca has problems at home and nobody to talk to.

She arrives for school with her sister in tow, and both of them seem unhappy.

Bianca struggles to talk to her school friends about what is going on at home.

Rivalry between friends Aamira and Shanice comes to a head but Bianca's troubles put it in perspective.

This clip is from the series L8R Youngers 1, exploring the issues faced by a group of young school friends.

Teacher Notes

In pairs, students could be asked to play the role of Bianca and someone that she would be able to speak to about her problems.

What advice and guidance can the students offer each other to help Bianca solve her problems?

After their conversations, ask the students to report back to the class.

What roles did the students offering advice adopt?

How many different people could Bianca have potentially spoken to about her concerns?

Did those who were playing Bianca find the counselling offered helpful?

Record all of the suggestions the pairs made and offer an assessment of them.

Curriculum Notes

This clip will be relevant for teaching PSHE and Modern Studies at KS2 in England and Northern Ireland, PSE at KS2 in Wales and First Level and Second Level in Scotland.
