PSHE/Citizenship KS3 & GCSE: Gang life - The murder of Jonathan Matondo

Gang Life' chronicles the toll that gang affiliation exacted on the Matondo family and their son Jonathan who was shot and killed in October 2007.

We also hear from a notorious gang named Dem Africans who reveal why they are still involved, from former gang members who were jailed as a consequence of their actions, and from the police who reveal the true scale of the problem.

Contain some adult themes. Teacher review recommended prior to use in class.

Teacher Notes

This clip could be used to explore the impact that gang membership and violence have on communities.

Students could be asked to record the impact that gang membership had on the three young people included.

Students could then do emotional graphs showing how their actions affected themselves and other people.

The concept of joint enterprise could also be explored.

This clip is suitable for teaching PSHE and Citizenship at KS3, GCSE/KS4 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 3, National 4 and National 5 in Scotland.
