Physical Education KS2: The 'stop and go' move from street dance

Lizzie from Alesha's Street Dance Stars teaches the 'stop and go' move as used in locking.

Lizzie demonstrates the 'stop and go' slowly, giving teaching points throughout with a focus on rising on the balls of the feet on the Atlas (or Strong man) pose – the Stop position.

The music is added and she demonstrates the movement, repeating it four times to the beat.

This clip is from the series Street Dance Masterclass.

Teacher Notes

The movement can be broken down and incorporated into any dance piece to demonstrate locking.

It's a short but useful linking move which could be demonstrated in question and answer phrasing by pairs of pupils.

Curriculum Notes

This clip will be relevant for teaching Physical Education or Dance at Key Stage 2 or Second Year in Scotland.
