Physical Education KS2: The 'point and lock' in street dance

Lizzie from CBBC's Alesha’s Street Dance Stars provides a breakdown of a 'point and lock' as used in street dance.

She starts by explaining the technical move of locking.

She then breaks down the points, focusing on taking the point from the shoulder to the diagonal.

She then breaks down the second move, which is the lock.

Music is added while she performs the point and lock to the beat.

This clip is from the BBC series, Street Dance Masterclass.

Teacher Notes

The movement can be broken down and incorporated into any dance piece to demonstrate locking.

It's a short but useful linking move which could be demonstrated in question and answer phrasing by pairs of pupils.

Curriculum Notes

Exploring the art of street dance, this series will be relevant for teaching physical education and dance at primary level.
