A performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's 'Prelude in C major' by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

This clip is from the series Performances from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Teacher Notes

You may want to ask students, after they've watched the clip, how the piece makes them feel and why. Is it the notes Bach's chosen, the increasing and decreasing tempo, or perhaps it's the variation in volume throughout the piece? It may well be all or none of these things.

It is important for students to understand how different aspects of a composition affect its interpretation by the listener.

Curriculum Notes

This topic is relevant to GCSE, AS Level and Higher Music in the areas of Romanticism, Music History and Understanding styles.
