English Literature GCSE: Imtiaz Dharker on her poem 'The Right Word'

Hip-hop star Akala meets the poet Imtiaz Dharker to discuss how her poem 'The Right Word' explores the power of language amidst the backdrop of the War on Terror.

Young poets also help Akala breakdown the language and meaning of the poem from the perspective of young people actively engaged in poetry.

This clip is from the series Poetry: Between the Lines.

Students can be encouraged to develop their own interpretations of poems they have read, and explore and develop their own taste in poetry.

It could also be useful in teaching analysis of poetic technique and form, and encourage fluency with critical terminology and language.
