French KS2: Clothes and colours

A lively and amusing song to help pupils expand their vocabulary for clothes.

The song also includes a range of colours as well as the adjectives long, petit, grand, court.

This clip is from the series Virtually There: France.

Teacher Notes

A good listening activity is to call out a sequence of colours. Pupils could build a tower of multi-link cubes to match the sequence.

Ask pupils to compose a colour song to a well-known tube eg Frère Jacques using only colour words for lyrics.

Talk about masculine and feminine in French language. Look at indefinite article ie un/une.

Match correct one for clothes mentioned in the song. Call out eg un. Pupils point to an article of their clothing which matches un eg un pantalon.

Practise asking and responding to the question Quelle est ta couleur préférée?

Carry out a class survey to find out pupils’ favourite colours. Have a fashion show where pupils describe outfits in French.

Curriculum Notes

These clips could be used for teaching French at KS2 or at a beginner level in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 1st and 2nd Level in Scotland.
