English Language GCSE: How to present Newsround
Musician and performer Labrinth explains how his self-confidence was helped by his involvement in music, and follows two volunteers who are about to gain work experience in the news industry by working on CBBC’s Newsround programme.
The volunteers are shown how to use an autocue and are given tips by current programme presenters.
The pair are filmed reading out a headline story and then they have a debrief with the presenters and Labrinth.
This clip is from the series Labrinth's Speak Out.
Could be used to help students build self-confidence in public speaking and presenting, with handy and easily implemented tips given on what makes a successful presenter.
Students could be encouraged to work in groups to present and film their own version of a news programme in class, showing it to their classmates for feedback.
This could also be useful as a part of careers advice for students interested in a career in broadcasting, presenting or journalism.
The topics discussed will support OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC GCSE in England and Wales, CCEA GCSE in Northern Ireland and SQA National 4/5 and Higher in Scotland.
