English Language GCSE: Giving a great talk
Two teenage students meet science presenter Mark Miadownik to find out how you can become a great public speaker.
Mark has experience lecturing at university, and presenting TV programs.
He gives some great advice about how to overcome nerves and how to present a great story that will captivate the audience.
Then Owen and Safoua take the plunge and try it themselves before receiving feedback from Mark and having a debrief with Labrinth.
This clip is from the series Labrinth's Speak Out.
Could be used to help students build self-confidence in public speaking, with tips given on how to be a successful public speaker.
Students could be encouraged to plan and deliver a talk on a topic of their choosing to their classmates.
This could also be useful as a part of careers advice for students interested in a career in public speaking, such as lecturing, presenting or teaching.
The topics discussed will support OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC GCSE in England and Wales, CCEA GCSE in Northern Ireland and SQA National 4/5 and Higher in Scotland.
