English KS1 / KS2: The Kick Off by Dan Freedman

Team GB and England Women's Football team player Eniola Aluko explains why she loves the book 'Jamie Johnson: The Kick Off' as part of the 'Bringing Books to Life' series.

Extracts from the book are read by England and Manchester City star Gareth Barry, with Dan Edwards demonstrating some football skills.

Join Eniola, Gareth and Dan as they introduce a book that captures the football fever of a young boy desperate to become the star of the school football team.

Teacher Notes

Students could write a sports report for a recent football match, utilising ICT sources to include factual information.

Ask students to prepare a talk on the subject of their chosen hobby which cites related texts they have read.

Did students know they could read literature about their hobbies and interests to develop their skills?

Students could be set the task of reading one text which relates to a hobby or interest, and share their findings to the other students in the form of a summary paragraph.
