The role of Buckingham and Charles’s belief in the Divine Right of Kings also plays a part in his downfall.

Was Charles I's personality the main cause of the English Civil War? Ask students to watch the clip and make a list of his traits that people may not have wanted in their king. They could then either research, or use their own prior knowledge, to find out what the causes of the Civil War were. Which are linked to each of Charles' personality traits?
