The War of The Worlds, a new adaptation of H.G. Wells 1898 novel, is coming to BBC One this autumn.

Set in Edwardian England, the 2019 series is the first British television adaptation of the novel that depicts a Martian invasion of earth.

Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, released in 1978, featured Richard Burton, Justin Hayward, Chris Thompson, Phil Lynott and David Essex.

The double album, retelling the H.G. Wells story The War of The Worlds, has sold over 15 million copies to date.

  • When is War of the Worlds on TV?

War of the Worlds begins Sunday, 17 November at 9pm on BBC One. The series is three episodes long.

Filming of the series began in Liverpool in April 2018. It is the first British television adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel and is directed by award-winning director Craig Viveiros, who worked on And Then There Were None and Rillington Place.

The series is produced by Betsan Morris Evans, who worked on NW and The City in The City.

The series is a Mammoth Screen production.

Damien Timmer, Executive Producer of Mammoth Screen, said at the time of the filming, "Here we are, making the original and best alien invasion story for the BBC One audience - it doesn't get much better than this!

  • Who is starring in War of the Worlds?

The new drama stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall, Rupert Graves, Nicholas Le Prevost, Harry Melling, Jonathan Aris and Robert Carlyle.

As filming began Eleanor Tomlinson said, “I’m delighted to be taking on the Martians with Rafe Spall in Mammoth Screen’s adaptation of The War Of The Worlds.

"I’ve been a fan of Craig Viveiros’ work for a while, so creating this world with him at the helm is very exciting.”

Rafe Spall said, “I am thrilled to be a part of bringing this much loved story to the small screen.

"I couldn’t be in better company with Craig Viveiros, Peter Harness, all at Mammoth Screen and of course, the very talented Eleanor Tomlinson.”
