She can't have been that scared, she close to play there?
There is absolutely nothing stopping these players from uniting as one and pulling out! There's more to life than money and if it's that bad surely they would put there health first! Madness that it's going ahead anyway but if there playing it's clearly not that bad or they wouldn't play, I know I wouldn't! Common sense
Cancelling the event is not even in the tournament organisers minds and dollar signs are clouding their judgements. Situations like this should not be down to the organisers to decide what's safe but the sports government bodies or local government should step in if it's unsafe. Walking around the AO with face masks does not seem safe to me when locals in Melbourne are being asked to stay indoors
The AO is by a long way, the worst slam on tour. When it's not blistering heat in the middle of the Aussie Summer, cooking players on centre court until 2 in the morning, it's hateful Margaret Court getting an arena named for her, now it's a decision to push ahead with this joke of an tournament as players choke on smoke. Cancel the 2020 event, remove its status as a slam and find a replacement.
Dalila Jakupovic should have been allowed to come back the next day to finish the match. It seems very unfair.
Following on from my previous post. Bushfires are usually started by man-made events such as arcing from overhead power lines, arson, accidental ignition in the course of agricultural clearing, grinding and welding activities, campfires, cigarettes and dropped matches, sparks from machinery, and controlled burn escapes. Not from high temperatures, per se.
356. Posted by red77 "If Australias hottest ever recorded temps cause Bush fires 32,000 square miles in size from which the smoke makes people unable to breath then you might blame climate change". High temperatures do not cause fires. They do make conditions tinder-dry enabling fires to grow and spread, but some form of ignition is needed to START it, e.g. electrical spark, cigarette butt, etc.
Was it at the Aussie open last year that they (finally) agreed to put safety regulations in place and delay matches if the temperature was above certain levels? Surely they should just do same if air pollutants are above certain levels?
#372 Inastate I'd rather the show be bigger than the performers than the other way around.
The northern hemisphere eco warriors are no different to the first fleet Don't disrespect the original custodians of the land, bush management required.
Best bit of match f1xing I’ve seen in a long time! Deserves an Oscar
Can any show be bigger than its performers? Foolish arrogance and worthy of sanction against the organisers by the world body.
Postpone the tournament for a week
