Djokovic is in this video, so it's on topic. But anyway, for Arbee, pops, Jay05 (worst Nadal fan ever) etc, here's a short video of why Roger fans love Roger. He's old and slow now, but we remember when he made shots like these:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-TtMvOTloQ
@111 - This video, is also a great example of what a great baseline player Sampras was, for the tennis 'fans', that only ever watched him S&V at Wimbledon. Watch his videos vs Agassi on hard courts for further examples of how great Pete actually was.
For tennis fans that like replays, here is that AO95 Sampras - Courier match in full. Awful commentary however, they thought Sampras was crying because he had a blister!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVgQ1RtaDjQ
armchair59 I couldn't agree more. Novak's ability on all surfaces is really impressive. Could be an amazing 2019 ahead for him, I'm looking forward to it.
You picked my 2 favourite players, anyone that doubts Sampras, needs to watch his match vs Jim Courier at AO95 after Tim Gullikson was diagnosed with cancer. He was distraught and Courier was beating him 2 sets to love, then made an actually nice comment, but Pete took it the wrong way and became a machine and beat him. Edberg didn't have the ground game unfortunately. Best net game though.
@103 - Okay, I'm going to bite because you really are that annoying.1 - I get out plenty.2 - I think I only do your head in, oh and some Rafa fans.3- I've been saying Federer is declining since 2013. His AO2017 win is more spectacular because of that.4 - I don't troll Nadal, I respect him, I troll his fans though. Guilty!5 - Who is Jocovic?Hugs x
I was hoping you would not remind me of that LDG! If I could change the result of one match I had watched it would be that one for me. I do wonder if Sampras could have managed it if her were prepared to changed tactics. Edberg nearly did too.
@106 - And JMac was destroying Lendl in that FO84 until he had a meltdown himself. Novak is temperamental and it doesn't always work to his advantage, so the next 2 years will be interesting. To be honest, I'd like to see a NextGen player break through and start winning slams, even Zverev, though I don't rate him personally. I'd like Tsitsipas or Shapovalov to be the first to win a slam.
I agree FinnDossing and DLG. When Djokovic lost some close ones this year e.g. at FO I wondered how he would deal with setbacks...well now we know! What is most impressive is that he has been successful on all surfaces from clay to indoor. He may well win many more but I remember McEnroe winning almost every match he played in 84 - after which he never won another slam so it is not certain.
@100 - Until Novak's meltdown in 2016, I thought he was going to at least match if not beat Roger's slam total. He's back at that level and is more likely, in my opinion, to do just that. It's hard to see Rafa winning away from Roland Garros, and if Novak is back at that level, he had Rafa's number on clay. I hope I see an 'impossible' CYGS next year, despite being a Roger fan.
@1021. Please get out more2. Try not to do people's head in3. Realise that FED is on the decline4. Stop trolling Nadal5. Recognise fully the force that IS Jocovic. Muah x
