Has done well no doubt, looks the part but at 15 the next game is going to put a lot on her shoulders. Ukraine v Russian/Ukraine no love lost there. I can see Svitolina destroying her if she get's a start. Really 16 should be the minimum age, young girls need protection.
Stick money on her reaching 25 grand slams
The link to get to this page is ‘15 year old beats Grand Slam record’. Which one is that then BBC?? Everything written here is ‘youngest since...’ That is not breaking a record, it is equalling it ar best. Lazy journalism
I was worth £8.70 at 15. Still am. Enjoy the money young lady there are millions more coming your way.
Hold on a minute.........great news.......Her Aunties budgie,s cousin budgie was bred in Britain........Can she become a Brit?
They brought in rules to say that girls can't enter the pro tour until the month of their 16th birthday, but she's just announced she's leaving the junior tour to go senior five months early - where did the protection go? The next Andrea Jaeger, or Ludmila Varmuzova?
For #9 (Sheppy) why comment on something you know little about? Um, Borg was just 18 when he won his first slam, Wilander not quite. McEnroe, Courier, Kuerten & Safin were all 20, Edberg & Sampras 19, Becker & Chang 17. Established players of the time didn't all retire in disgrace. This girl miles from winning a slam. Report says "youngest since Lucic-Baroni (97)" - SHE is playing in THIS!!
Just goes to show that a Wii can be useful in development.
@13 best at an early age than too late, those who develop later in life usually (not always) are the first ones to act up on receiving criticism and tend to be selfish and brash. So when a younger player sees the criticism they will get over it quicker, plus media has a limit on what they can post etc against a minor.
Clearly a talented person. But is it right that a 15 year old should be subjected to such pressure from both the sport and the media?
Got to love her confidence. Facing the number 4 next and confident she'll be able to cause issues with her game. Good luck to her. Goes to show the shame of someone like Laura Robson. This sort of potential but ruined by injuries.
@10....If you have read many BBC HYSays on women's tennis, you may be aware that Maria and a couple of others have been deemed worthy of Sir R's support. It seems to me that this is partly down to their tennis skill, but mostly because of their appearances. I bet all of them are just beside themselves with joy, gratitude and self-esteem as a result.
