Roger Federer taken to five sets by Gilles Simon in Paris

Roger Federer survived a scare at the French Open, coming from two sets to one down to beat Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-1 4-6 2-6 6-2 6-3.

The number two seed was forced to dig deep and show all the experience which has seen him win 17 Grand Slams.

The win, which took two hours 59 minutes, was Federer's 900th career win and took his run of consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals to 36.

Federer will now play Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last eight.
