Land Rover BAR were tied with three teams going into the last of four races

Sir Ben Ainslie's Land Rover BAR team finished third in the America's Cup World Series in Gothenburg as Emirates Team NZ won the final race to take the overall victory.

Ainslie's boat was tied with three teams going into the last of four races on 34 points, but could only manage a fifth-place finish.

Team Oracle USA, fourth in the final race, were second overall in Sweden.

The result means Land Rover BAR drop to second in the overall standings.

They have 65 points, with Team New Zealand first on 72.

Land Rover BAR took the overall victory in the first event of the America's Cup World Series in Portsmouth in July.

The Gothenburg race, comprising four races over two days, was part of a lengthy qualification process that will count towards the 2017 America's Cup Challenger Series, the winner of which will take on Oracle in the 2017 America's Cup.

It will be the 35th staging of the oldest competition in international sport, which was first raced in 1851 around the Isle of Wight.

It was named after a boat called America, which beat the best Britain could offer. A British boat has never won the trophy.
