Cardiff Blues second row George Earle's appeal against the eight-week ban given after he was sent-off against Bath on 15 December has failed.

An appeal hearing agreed with the original disciplinary hearing that Earle had "made contact with the eye(s) and/or eye area" of Bath flanker Tom Ellis in the Challenge Cup game.

Earle, 30, asked an independent appeal committee to review the ban without a personal hearing.

He can play again from 13 February.

The appeal committee consisted of professor Lorne Crerar (Scotland), chairman, Rod McKenzie (Scotland) and Mr Justice James Dingemans (England).
