Rynard Landman has agreed a contract extension with Newport Gwent Dragons that will keep him in Wales until 2019.

The 30-year-old South African lock has played 68 games since joining Dragons on a three year deal in 2014-15.

Before his move to Wales, Landman was in the Cheetahs team that reached the Super Rugby play-offs in 2013.

"I can see the region going from strength to strength and that's something I want to be part of," he said.

"I am currently focussing on giving my best for the Dragons and I want to try and get the team winning consistently - we can definitely take the next step."

Landman will qualify for Wales through long-term residency, but says his priority is the region.

"It's any player's dream to win international honours, but my first priority is to play well for the Dragons and whatever happens will happen."

Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones said: "The fact he has had interest from many teams in France, England and here in Wales is credit to his performances since his arrival from South Africa.

"It also makes his decision to stay at the Dragons more significant and I am delighted he'll be with us for the next two seasons.

"He is a very influential player for us both off and on the pitch."
