Champions Connacht continued their improvement after their poor start to the Pro12 season as they easily saw off bottom club Treviso in Galway.

The home side secured a bonus point before half-time thanks to Tom McCartney's two tries and scores from Danie Poolman and Denis Buckley.

Connacht's scrum and lineout domination laid the platform for their success.

John Cooney, Quinn Roux and Jack Carty added further Connacht tries with Vittorio Flammini replying.

The only downside from Connacht victory was the late arm injury picked up by debutant South African fly-half Marnitz Boshoff whose exit in the 73rd minute left the home side completing the game with only 14 players.

Irishman Ian McKinley kicked Treviso into a fourth-minute lead but Connacht were soon in front as a lineout maul was finished off by McCartney after Boshoff had turned down a penalty chance to kick to the corner.

Cian Kelleher's yellow carding from the restart for taking an opponent out in the air briefly halted Connacht's march before wing Poolman, a late replacement for Matt Healy, touched down after a superb pass from Nepia Fox-Matamua.

McCartney notched his second try in the 31st minute after a Treviso scrum on their own line had been turned over and Kelleher's chip and chase helped engineer prop Buckley's bonus-point clinching try in the 38th minute.

After kicking all four conversions in the first half, scrum-half Cooney helped himself to a try in the 50th minute following another lineout maul.

Boshoff added that conversion to notch his first Connacht points before another strong Connacht scrum shove set up Roux's try four minutes later.

Treviso finally exerted some scrum muscle of their own to reply through Flammini in the 66th minute before replacement fly-half Carty completed the scoring with his try and subsequent conversion.

Connacht stay eighth in the table despite their victory while Treviso remain without a win on the road in the PRO12 since late 2014.
