Liam Williams: Tom Shanklin questions potential Saracens move
Former Wales and Saracens centre Tom Shanklin has questioned Liam Williams' potential move to Saracens because of the form of England back Alex Goode.
Reports have suggested the 25-year-old has agreed to join the European champions for the 2017-18 campaign.
Williams' contract with Scarlets expires at the end of the current season.
"It seems strange if he is going to Saracens because I firmly believe his best position is 15," Shanklin said.
"It's a great club and set-up but there is a world-class 15 there already. Alex Goode is an incredible player."
Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac said he had not been told by Williams what he intends to do but former Blues player Shanklin hopes he stays in Wales for the good of regional rugby.
"I thought it was done and dusted," Shanklin told BBC Radio Wales Sport.
"We're hearing now that it might not be, which is good for Welsh rugby if he stays.
"If he wants to play 15 then I think he's gone to the wrong club. He'd have to play on the wing.
"What I don't really understand is that Liam Williams wants to play 15 and I think he is a better 15 than he is a winger."
