Cornish Pirates coach Gavin Cattle says his side can take a lot of positives out of their 35-28 Championship loss at home to Yorkshire Carnegie.

Having led 13-7 early on the Pirates were just one point behind at half-time before two Yorkshire tries early in the second half killed off their chances.

"Overall I'm really pleased with the endeavour," Cattle told BBC Cornwall.

"They're creating chances and you can always work with that and they're hungry."

Jake Parker's early try for the Pirates, was added to by impressive scores from Alex Dancer and Matt Evans in the second half as the Pirates lost for just the second time this season, dropping to fourth in the Championship.

"We've progressed again, our attack has stepped up a notch, which is a good thing because a lot of our wins have been based on our strong defensive displays, so it's good to get a bit of ball in hand.

"I felt the boys took on board what we spoke about in the week and executed as well.

"We all have to stay grounded. we've had a fantastic start, I don't think anyone expected it.

"We're not surprised internally, but it's another thing actually doing it, credit to the lads, they've applied themselves awesomely in the last six weeks of the season."
