Championship side Jersey Reds have named Pierce Phillips as their new club captain.

He replaces Alex Rae, who retired from playing at the end of last season to become the islanders' forwards coach.

Phillips will be supported as skipper by vice-captains James Freeman and summer signing Jack Cuthbert.

"Pierce really grew into his leadership role last season," Jersey head coach Harvey Biljon said of the 23-year-old lock.

"He has also shown his ability as a leader during pre-season, dating back to the first days that the squad were back in training and before any official roles had been confirmed."

The Reds are preparing for their fifth season competing at Championship level.
