Jersey centre Lewis Robling says competition for places in the Championship club's line-up is fierce.

The island side has seen 16 new players join in the summer, with Robling moving to centre having spent part of last season at fly-half.

"The competition in the squad at the moment is very high," Robling said.

"At the end of the day, it makes you play better knowing that there are guys chomping at your heels ready to get on the field," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

Jersey lost their opening Championship game 39-22 at Yorkshire Carnegie and Robling says the islanders must make their home form count.

"We want to make this place a fortress now and make it a really tough place for team to come.

"The conditions are difficult with the wind and we like to think we're used to it and we can dominate teams when we come here."
