Guernsey head coach Jordan Reynolds says his side's opening week defeat is "disheartening".
The Raiders lost 39-23 at London Irish Wild Geese in National Three London.
"It is disheartening for us all, not just the players, but the coaching staff as well," said Reynolds.
"We've put in a lot of work, but it's something we have to pick ourselves up from, take responsibility for and hopefully just build this week and see if we can improve."
And Reynolds said the attitude of some of his players disappointed him.
"Irish got under our skin pretty early and we'd rather hide than fight the fight," he said.
"But I don't think they're as a good a side as they were last year and we are a better side than we were last year, so it was an opportunity for us to pick up points.
"I think you've got to take some negatives from that and see if we can build from it and use it as motivation.
"I don't think there's any team in this league we can't take points from, we've got to be confident in that," he added to BBC Guernsey.
