Cornwall captain Kyle Marriott hailed his side's sprit following their County Championship victory.

Cornwall beat Lancashire 18-13 at Twickenham to win the Bill Beaumont Cup for the first time since 1999.

"The boys have come together and we've worked as one," Marriott said.

"We've been training for this for two or three months, and some boys even longer as part of the development squad through the winter, and I think that was the difference."

Cornwall lost the two previous finals to Lancashire before Sunday's victory, which was a second county title for Marriott after being part of the Devon side that won in 2007.

"It was a really special moment when the final whistle went," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"Lancashire are such a dangerous side, we really had to knuckle down in defence and that's been a real strength of us in this campaign.

"Lancashire really tested us and we really wanted to have a bend, not break, attitude.

"We held them out for phases and when they scored that try with five minutes go it was backs against the wall, but once again our defence really showed well, came forward and managed to complete those tackles and win the game."
