A brilliant Owen Watkin try and outstanding display by flanker Ollie Griffiths helped Wales Under-20 beat their Irish counterparts in the junior Six Nations.
Rival fly-halves Jarrod Evans and Ross Byrne's goal-kicking dominated a tense opening period.
But the hosts conjured a wonderful counter-attacking try for centre Watkins at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay.
And that proved the difference after a cagey second period.
Evans kicked three penalties to Byrne's brace before Ireland lost possession near the home 22 for Wales to launch a counter-attack on the right that ended with Watkin racing away.
The opposing stand-offs kicked a penalty apiece, Byrne's ending the scoring as the third quarter closed.
That left the visitors within a converted try of drawing level.
But with the home scrum on top, Ireland lost loose-head prop Jeremy Loughman to the sin-bin at a retreating scrum after 65 minutes.
That undermined the visitors' efforts and after Loughman's return, the hosts kept them at bay.
