Plymouth Albion have released prop Cameron Ziess just four months after signing him from French club Tabres.
The 24-year-old has been classed by the Rugby Football League as non-English qualified following his time in France.
"When we signed Cameron we were under the impression that he was English qualified," head coach James Shanahan told the club website.
"As he had played in France he became non-EQP and would have had to serve another three-year residency term."
Shanahan continued: "We appealed to the RFU but that appeal was rejected.
"As a consequence, Cameron would have had very little game-time as we have signed a number of other props this season.
"That wasn't going to be fair on him and Cameron asked to be released from his contract with immediate effect, a request we have granted."
