I'm a massive Lions and Sco supporter. As dissapointed as i'll be if there are no Scots in the line-up for the first test, i'll be cheering the Lions on. You have to trust the coach. For me, i think SH and RG have done enough to be on the bench. 1/2P is the better fullback at the moment, but i think SH (in a number of pos) and RG can add real impact from the bench. Come on Lions!
Although this may not matter for the Tests, it would be good to keep the winning habit against Brumbies. But I am very concerned that the back-line have hardly met, never mind practised together. Why aren't Maitland and Zebo playing, at least they have some idea of how the Lions are trying to play. I understand why Gat would protect Cuthbert and of course most of the others injured or Test certs.
I'am just going to say about the players who have really stood out in the backs & it's Sexton , HalfPenny , Davies , North , Bod , Cuthbert & Phillips. , got to be honest I think the Welsh players have stood out to be honest especially the back line .
Too many embittered patriots on here! A proud Scot myself, but Hogg & Gray shouldn't be in starting team on Sat, but they deserve a spot on the bench. There are three tests though, and I feel that both will contribute fully by the end of it. Team looks nailed on at the moment, but still a chance for people to shine tomorrow - looking forward to seeing Wade. Forget your country, support the Lions!
@982Like it. A loss (possibly) caused by two independent officials deferring to a SA video official who sent Hamilton off for no more than a push. Disgracefull!!
Time for a wee bit of perspective just to counter balance some of the utter rubbish talked in this forum. So far the Lions have played naebody. The Waratahs were about 9 short away with the Aussie squad. Meanwhile Scotland 2nds came within 10 mins of upsetting the Boks ranked 2 in the World and at full strength in their own backyard. Whose was the performance most deserving of comment.
close calls everywhere and bench will play a big part. I think Youngs has looked better than Phillips. Quick ball, sharper, better temprament. Phillips likes an arm wrestle too much
To Rugbylover, even if Gray & Hogg were on the subs bench, it would be accepted by many Scots fans that perhaps that is as good a contribution we could hope for from a Scottish perspective.Hogg can cover possibly 3 positions, 2 realistically , and Gray could have an impact in the final 20 minutes. From what I have seen Gray shades it against Parling.
I am a huge MT fan and whilst he did well when playing with BOD I am not sure he has done enough to oust JD who has been excellent. I do think that given time & fitness MT can become a test starter but ATM I see him as an excellent impact bench option but I do not think there is room for both MT & OF, In a tight game the bench wins the match and I think WG has some real issues to sort out there.
@974 apart from an outside chance of Twelvetrees making the starting line up (yeah not going to happen) I guess it comes down to whether Manu is fit if he is then he starts if not then it's JD2. The worry of course is about injury cover and game changers.
Anyone point me to 1/2p's kicking success stats internationally and how hey rate against Jenkins, JW etc? Always think 1/2p's kicking is all the more impressive given the range he will attempt a kick from, even his own half. Also a decent place to find stats on the Lions tour, tackle count etc? Can't find zip!
JD and BOD are the two best centres out there, very clever and full of pace and invention and defensively they are more that sound, they will cut the Aussies to pieces.
I've only just seen their first try and correct me if I'm wrong but they weren't allowed a quick throw as AWJ had acted smart and touched the ball, who says locks are donkeys !!!!!
#973 Interesting comment given that #968 was answering #966, are you both Rugby & Bedzy? So, with Roberts out I guess JD is a shoe in at 12. North may be fit which is great news. For me the really interesting question is does OF make the bench meaning no impact sub for the centre or do you put Hogg and MT on the bench & pray JS lasts 80 mins or does 12T provide the answer?
@968 Can you read or what ? Internationally I said he hasn't done jack in the games he played & you have not got the best players in Britain Eng fans you got to learn give credit while it's due to the other nations not just your own all the time , I'am glad Wade is getting a game but leave the guy play don't put pressure on him & I hope he scores loads of tries for the lions !
971, agreed on all counts, good to see prov sides trying to take out the Lions, like days of old.We should rise above it, and just show them these tactics won't work
Should there not have been some citations after the game on Saturday? Late tackles, blocks, punches by the Waratahs just seemed to go uncommented, unpunished and even accepted. I thought the ref had a nightmare.
