The Rugby Football Union is to review Sunday's Championship fixture between Leeds and Plymouth Albion.

Referee Matt Carley was forced to employ uncontested scrums after just 13 minutes of because of the state of the pitch at Headingley.

"I felt the referee should have consulted the coaches of both teams," Albion head coach Nat Saumi told BBC South West Sport.

"I am happy with what the referee said because we didn't want a nasty injury."

But Saumi says the Headingley pitch, was not good enough.

It was the first time Leeds had played on the new turf, but the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team had taken on Wakefield there in a friendly on Boxing Day.

"For me, as a coach, the pitch was unplayable," he added.

"It was a nice surface for running, but for set-pieces and scrummaging it was no good."
