Ballymena have retained the Ulster Senior Cup by beating Rainey 25-6 at Ravenhill on Wednesday night.

Peter Budina and John Burns scored first-half tries while Simon Shawe touched down for the Braidmen's third try late in the game.

Full-back Tim Small added two penalties and two conversions.

Mark O'Connor landed two penalties for Rainey, but Ballymena go through to represent Ulster in the All-Ireland Cup.

John Andrews' side were runners-up in the competition last year, losing to Garryowen in the decider.

The Magherafelt men were unable to recapture the form which had seen them beat Dungannon and Malone in previous rounds of the Senior Cup.

Ballymena had beaten Banbridge in last year's final.
