Kyle Eastmond: Bath to use player's versatility

Kyle Eastmond

Bath coach Gary Gold says he would consider playing wing Kyle Eastmond at fly-half after he impressed in the role against Bucuresti on Saturday.

The 23-year-old played at number 10 for the first time as a second-half replacement in Bath's 40-17 victory.

"He wanted an opportunity in a less-pressurised situation to see how he goes and he was very good," Gold told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It's a weapon we are investigating a little bit further."

After an injury-hit first season at the Rec, Eastmond has proved his potential in the 15-man game this term and has secured a regular starting place on the wing.

But Gold believes the could now act as a stand-by for regular fly-halves Stephen Donald and Tom Heathcote.

"He's just such a good footballer," he added.

"We're still very comfortable with Kyle being a wing. He's the type of guy who you want to get the ball in his hands - he can create magic.

"Because of his league background he kicks the ball beautifully and understands space.

"It's another option for us."
