Bath coach Martin Haag says he is happy with the club's decision to mix first-team players with youngsters during their LV= campaign this season.

Northampton travel to the Recreation Ground on Saturday to face a Bath side that have comfortably beaten Worcester and Dragons earlier in the competition.

"In the past we played young guys and those without games, this year we mixed and matched," Haag told BBC Bristol.

"It's given us really good progression so far," he added.

"For the young guys' development it's much easier to play with three or four experienced guys around you.

"And with the LV= Cup, it's not always your first-team squad but if you can play a few guys who are coming through on fitness and experience it can really help."

Bath have won two and lost two so far this year, and the former lock said his side were expecting to face a resilient Saints.

"We know they will be tough. They will be strong, physical and direct.

"They've got a good squad, and they'll be really going for it as well so it should be a good game."
