Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has praised his side's forwards after the 16-10 win over Newcastle.
The result lifts the Chiefs up into sixth position in the Premiership ahead of their two European Challenge Cup ties in the next fortnight.
Baxter told BBC Radio Devon: "Elements of a lot of what we did were very good.
"Our line-out in particular was excellent both from our ball and challenging Newcastle's ball, and our scrum was good at times."
And Baxter believes the win sets his side up well to push on in January as they travel to Cavalieri Prato and host Perpignan in a bid to reach the last eight of the Challenge Cup.
"On the whole we deserved to win a very important game of rugby, it's four very valuable points and it moves us up the table rather than looking over our shoulders," he continued.
"Let's look to be ambitious, we can attack Leicester at home in four weeks time and we can look to enjoy that game and try and prove a point and see if we are really progressing.
"In the next two weeks we've got two Amlin games to decide if we will be in the quarter finals of a European competition.
"It's a great credit to their hard work that we are where we are."
