Saracens deserve more international call-ups - Stevens

Saracens prop Matt Stevens says a host of his team-mates deserve to achieve more national honours.

Stevens, 28, has aspirations of reclaiming the England place he lost following a drugs ban in 2009.

"There are a number of players here that deserve a look," he told BBC Three Counties Radio ahead of Sunday's Premiership play-off semi-final.

"I've said to them it's about playing in semi-finals and finals and taking the decision away from the selectors."

Fly-half Owen Farrell, back-row forward Andy Saull, inside centre Brad Barritt and full-back Alex Goode will be hoping to attract the attention of England head coach Martin Johnson when they host Gloucester at the weekend.

While Stevens reckons Wales chief Warren Gatland should be taking a longer look at one-time cap Rhys Gill.

"There are a lot of good players that deserve the plaudits," added South African-born Stevens, who has 32 England caps.

"Whether they get them is down to us playing well this weekend.

"The same thing goes for me, I'm in the exact same position as them.

"I've got to prove myself again and I've been told if I do I've got as good a chance as anyone else."
