Salford Red Devils kept pace with the top five in Super League thanks to victory over Catalans Dragons.

Josh Johnson, Derrell Olpherts and Kris Welham crossed for Salford to give them a 16-8 half-time lead, with Sam Kasiano going over for Catalans.

Brayden Williame reduced the deficit, but tries from Tui Lolohea, Niall Evalds, Welham and Mark Flanagan made it a convincing victory for the hosts.

Salford move two points behind fifth-placed Castleford with six games to go.

Both teams now face a two-week break with neither involved in Saturday's Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Salford next visit bottom side London Broncos on Sunday, 4 August, and Catalans, who drop to sixth in the table, host second-placed Warrington a day earlier.

Salford Red Devils coach Ian Watson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"Great team performance, they've all done their job and the last couple weeks they've done that for each other.

"Once we got to grips with our kicking game we came up with some points on the back end of that.

On Kris Welham: "He was outstanding - his 300th career appearance and I thought the two tries really capped it off for him."
