Wakefield beat Halifax to guarantee themselves at least a play-off chance to retain their Super League status.
The Wildcats' win, coupled with Bradford's triumph on Saturday, condemned Halifax, Leigh and Sheffield to life in the second tier next season.
A Michael Sio brace and a Michael Simon effort put Wakefield 18-6 ahead at the break, with Jake Eccleston responding.
Anthony Mullally and Max Jowitt added further tries either side of Scott Murrell's effort for Halifax.
Victory for Wakefield came in the absence of scrum-half Tim Smith, full-back Kevin Locke and centre Reece Lyne, who are the subject of an internal investigation after Smith was charged for failing to provide a sample for analysis and driving without due care.
The winner of Sunday's meeting between Widnes and Salford will clinch Super League safety, while Wakefield and Bradford still have a chance of avoiding the Million Pound Game, which is a play-off between fourth and fifth in The Qualifiers for the last top-flight spot for 2016.
