Wigan Warriors: Shaun Wane not looking to NRL signings
Wigan Warriors will look to their youth players instead of making signings from the National Rugby League, says head coach Shaun Wane.
The squad that beat Hull KR 60-0 on Friday featured 10 players that came through the youth system at the club.
"We're capable of signing them," Wane, 50, told BBC Radio Manchester when asked about NRL players.
"It's just that I'm very happy with players like George Williams and Ryan Hampshire."
Wigan have already recruited from the NRL for next season with England full-back Sam Tomkins rejoining, although he also came through the ranks at the club.
Wane, who previously coached in the youth setup at the Warriors, would like to see more clubs give younger players a chance.
"I remember the best Wigan teams of the 80s and 90s had a real strong nucleus of local people and were Wigan lads, where the club means a lot to them," he said.
"That is what I want again, I want to win a competition with 17 lads that have come through our system.
"It's something that us, as a game, and as a club should really embrace."
