Scotland edged closer to a place in the 2016 Four Nations Series after beating Ireland in the European Championship.
Skipper Danny Brough set up tries for Callum Phillips and Danny Addy as well as kicking four conversions and a drop goal at Dublin's Tallaght Stadium.
Alex Hurst and Oscar Thomas scored the other Scottish tries with debutant James Toole scoring Ireland's late try.
Scotland will win the title as long as they do not lose by more than 16 points against France at Galashiels on Friday.
Ireland had gone into Saturday's game after their surprise opening 22-12 win over France last weekend.
Scotland opened their campaign with a 42-18 win over Wales.
