Wembley Statue nominee: Martin Offiah

Express Newspapers head of sport Howard Wheatcroft talks about why he believes Martin Offiah who won four Challenge Cup finals with Wigan should be immortalised outside Wembley.

Offiah, nicknamed 'Chariots', is already celebrated at Wembley with a bar named after him in recognition of the wonder try he scored in the 1994 Challenge Cup final against Leeds, when he brought the stadium to its feet with an 80-metre run.

On Thursday 23 August the RFL Board will officially announce which of a six strong short list - Billy Boston, Eric Ashton, Martin Offiah, Gus Risman, Alex Murphy, or a group representation - will be immortalised outside Wembley. You can give the RFL your views by sending an e-mail to wembley.statue@rfl.uk.com.
